The top 5 hikes around Les 2 Alpes

Return to the list

The resort of Les 2 Alpes is at the crossroads of several beautiful hikes, offering something for everyone. Here’s a round-up of our top 5!

Tour of the lakes on the Plateau d’Emparis:

A hike on the Plateau d’Emparis is a definite must. The plateau is a lush green setting where several rivers have carved their beds. You may well come across marmots and wild vultures here, whilst admiring Edelweiss flowers at the path’s edge. Head towards lake Lérié before continuing towards lake Noir, then soak up stunning panoramic views as you stand and face La Meije, le Rateau and the Mont de Lans glacier! Next, carry on towards the Plateau d’Emparis and the Col Saint-Georges.
Access: From Les 2 Alpes, drive down to the Chambon dam and turn towards Mizoen. After Mizoen village, follow signs for Besse-en-Oisans, then take the un-tarmacked road at the end of the village which leads towards the col Saint-Georges (2.245 metres).
Difficulty level: Easy
Departure point: Col Saint-Georges 2.245 metres
Arrival point: Lac Noir at 2.450 metres
Distance: 9 km there and back
Duration: 4 hours there and back (depending on speed of walker and the number of breaks taken)

Lauvitel lake:

A lovely hike to enjoy as a family. Lauvitel lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Ecrins National Park and also a favourite spot for friendly marmots… Find all the info here

The refuge and the Muzelle lake:

A very beautiful hike in the Ecrins National Park. This is your chance to get close up to this mythical mountain whose eye watches over us every day in the resort of Les 2 Alpes! There is a large vertical incline but the path is well marked out, fairly easy to walk along and offers stunning views at the top.
Difficulty level: Intermediate +
Departure point: L’Alleau 965 metres
Arrival point: Refuge de la Muzelle 2.115 metres
Distance: 10.4 km there and back
Duration: 6 hours there and back

La Bergerie + Col de Mais + Pied Moutet:

This hike starts from the resort and can be done in several stages. Start out from the bottom of the Vallée Blanche chair lift and follow the path that leads to the Bergerie (sheepfold). From here, you can carry on to the Col de Mais, where the views are magnificent; on one side you overlook Bourg d’Oisans and on the other side, Alpe d’Huez, Auris and Les 2 Alpes. Keen hikers can follow the last stage up to the top of Pied Moutet, although you really need to be in good physical condition for this and the ground needs to be dry because it’s steep and certain sections have to be climbed over. It’s worth it though because the 360° views from the top are absolutely stunning.
Difficulty level: Easy as far as the col de Mais and difficult as far as Pied Moutet
Departure point: From the bottom of the Vallée Blanche chair lift, 1.650 metres (entrance to the resort)
